North Korea has fired missiles towards Japan in an act of aggression that has infuriated the international community.
Kim Jong-un, the secretive nation's leader, ordered that his military open fire at the Sea of Japan.
And it is now feared that his move could provoke a major conflict in the region.
It appears that the dictator ordered the missile launch in retaliation for Japan approving the United Nations' move to impose harsher sanctions on North Korea.
The sanctions came following negotiations between China - Kim Jong-un's most powerful ally - and the United States.
One new rule imposed on North Korea is that all cargo coming and going from the country must be inspected.
It also bans North Korea from exporting iron, iron ore and coal. Kim Jong-un's country earns £710million each year by exporting coal.
South Korean military bosses are now assessing the full nature of the missile launch towards Japan.
It is not clear if the missiles were artillery fire, or if they were short-range missiles.
United States President Barack Obama, speaking of the new sanctions imposed on North Korea, said: "The international community, speaking with one voice, has sent Pyongyang a simple message: North Korea must abandon these dangerous programs and choose a better path for its people."
