UTME: Confusion over alleged 40% marks

The allegations that some candidates who sat for the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination were awarded extra 40 marks created confusion in Abuja on Wednesday.

The examination began throughout the country on Saturday.

According to reports, the candidates allegedly received 40 marks extra after their results had been released online.

But a source said, “We did some findings but could not really get what exactly happened. We don’t have such information. We have checked our computer and there is nothing like that.

“If there are two results, the last one is more authentic. But to say that JAMB deliberately gave 40 marks, I don’t think there is anything like that.

“We would have loved to say nothing of such happened, but we don’t know where they got such information. Sometimes somebody will just come up with such information, and before you know, it will be everywhere.

“When we mark these scripts, we do what is called normalisation of scores. This is when the actual scores now comes out. So for somebody to have received a score that is not normalised, cannot be explained.”
