Fenerbahce bus attacked

Fenerbahce’s team bus has been subjected to gunfire and their driver seriously wounded, according to Trabzon's city governor.

The Turkish Super Lig side’s official television channel showed the bus with bullet holes in the front windscreen and claimed the attack was made by an assailant with a shotgun following the team's 5-1 league victory over Black Sea side Caykur Rizespor.

The governor of Trabzon, Abdulcelil Oz, said initially he was not sure whether the driver, who was wounded and taken to hospital, had been struck by a stone on a highway in northern Turkey.

But he told Turkish television: "At first we thought stones had been thrown at the bus but forensic investigators at the scene have concluded it was an armed attack."

He also said Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan - a Fenerbahce supporter - had contacted him about the investigation into the attack.

And the Turkish Football Federation has issued a statement condemning the incident "in the strongest possible terms", calling for the perpetrators to be brought to justice "immediately".

A Fenerbahce supporters group has published a series images from Fenerbahce TV on its Twitter profile, showing holes in the bus’s front windscreen and blood over the driver’s steering wheel.

The driver is reportedly in a stable condition in hospital as the investigation continues.
