President Muhammadu
Buhari on Monday extended his condolences to Governor Willie Obiano of
Anambra State and the people of the state over the tanker fire that
claimed 60 lives in the state over the weekend.
The victims were said to have lost their lives when a petrol tanker crashed into a busy bus station in Onitsha.
Buhari, in a statement by his Senior
Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, described
the incident as a sad and unfortunate loss.
He said the incident was made more
unfortunate by the number of families who are currently mourning the
loss of their loved ones.
“My deepest sympathies are with you at this most trying time,” Buhari said in his condolence message.
The President also extended his condolences to the Vice President of America, Joe Biden, who lost his son, Beau, to cancer of the brain.
“As
someone who has lost a child, I understand how painful and almost
inconsolable it can be. The government and people of Nigeria stand with
you at this trying moment for your family,” Buhari said.
He added that only God can offer comfort to both the governor and people of Anambra, and to Vice President Biden.
“I pray that God comforts you,” he added.
