The ancient city of Ilorin, Kwara State capital, yesterday witnessed a joyful mood following the news that the former governor of the state and senator representing Kwara central senatorial district at the national assembly, Senator Bukola Saraki, was elected unopposed as the new senate president of the eight national assembly.
The people of the ancient town, spreading across such areas as Oja Oba, Aloore, Idi Ape, Kuntu, Offa Garage, Tanke, Challenge and Unity road trooped out to celebrate their kinsman.
Also included in the jubilation are students of tertiary institutions in the state, workers, artisans among others.
Some of the residents who spoke with THISDAY yesterday in Ilorin said there was no doubt that the former governor, deserved the seat in view of his wide experiences in Nigerian politics. They said the new senate president, Senator Saraki, remained an epitome of knowledge and exposure who will make laws that would benefit the masses of the country.
The people however called on the members of the national assembly to forget the intrigues that led to the election of the new senate president and rally round him, so as to move the nation forward. In his reaction yesterday, a chieftain of All Progressives Congress(APC) in the state, Hon. Segun Karunwi, lauded the giant stride of the members of the senate to elect Saraki as the new senate president of the eight senate.
