Gunmen Kidnap Monarch In Bayelsa

Gunmen have abducted elder Christian Otobotekere, the regent king of Ekpetiama Kingdom in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, a royal father of Governor Seriake Dickson’s former Chief of Staff, Didi Walson-Jack.

The bandits were said to have stormed the monarch’s residence at Tombia, near Yenagoa, the state capital, and took him away to an unknown destination, in the early hours of Thursday.

Otobotekere is also the paramount ruler of Tombia community, about 25 minutes drive to the state-owned Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Amassoma, in Southern Ijaw local council area.

It was learnt that the hoodlums forced him into a car and drove to the Tombia-Amassoma Bridge where they dragged him out and burnt the vehicle beyond recognition.

They were said to have taken their victim into a waiting speed boat with which they sped off into the creeks.

Police Public Relations Officer of the Bayelsa Command, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the kidnapping of Otobotekere and said that his assailants were “heavily armed”.

Butswat, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, added that a stray bullet from the abductors  injured a food vendor and that he was receiving treatment at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH), Okolobiri.
