Villagers Flee, As Soldiers Storm Maraban Foron Community

Hundreds  of villagers have fled their homes in Maraban Foron of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State following the invasion of soldiers suspected to be members of the Special Task Force (STF) deployed to restore law and order in the community.

It would be recalled that four  persons were  reported killed in a clash involving Fulani and Beroms  in Foron village of Barkin Ladi Local Government, Plateau State, during the week in the restive community where three soldiers were allegedly injured in a clash.

A resident of the community who does not want to be named alleged that some soldiers suspected to be members of the Special Task Force invaded their communities and started breaking homes , beating up members of the community and terrorising them with gunshots.

“As I speak most of our villagers have fled to neighbouring communities because of the men of the STF. We cannot continue to remain in the community to be  tortured by the military.

“Right now, most of my relatives have relocated to Kuru; we are calling on the state government to intervene,” he added.

Another resident, Solomon Goje, queried the ransacking of their communities and not that of the Fulanis.” This is victimisation,” he said.

Reacting to the development, acting national Chairman of Berom Youth Moulders (BYM), Samson Tsok, said: “One Berom village, Foron, was attacked by unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani on Tuesday night, two of our boys were killed in the attack and four people are still missing.

“Early this morning, some soldiers of the Special Task Force (STF) stormed the village without notice; we were embarrassed and felt under siege.”

“We don’t even know what the soldiers are searching for because they came in company of some Fulani people who were pointing at the house to raid; they just burst into any house and started searching.

“At the end of the so-called search, they did not tell us if they found anything.”

It would be recalled that  following heightened tension in Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government areas of the  state, Governor Simon Lalong recently declared a dusk to dawn curfew in the two local government areas.
