Petrol bomb hits another refugee home in Germany

German police said unknown assailants attacked a refugee home early Friday in Salzhemmendorf, near Hanover, with a petrol bomb setting carpet and mattress ablaze.

The former school in the village of Salzhemmendorf, near Hanover, served as home to more than 30 refugees.

Police Spokesman, Jens Petersen, said the incendiary device was thrown through a closed window into a flat in the former school building.

“A mother and her three children who were sleeping in the adjoining room were unharmed.

“The family has been taken to alternative accommodation, where the mother is receiving counselling,” he said.

He said firefighters were alerted by residents of the home at 2am and they were able to extinguish the fire.

The spokesperson said police are looking for a vehicle that was observed fleeing the scene, and detectives were questioning witnesses.
