The agrarian community of Ile-Oluji, the headquarters of Ile-Oluji/Oke Igbo local government area of the Ondo State has commenced the final burial rites for the late monarch Oba Stephen Adedugbe, who died on June 6, 2015.
According to the Lisa of the ancient town, High Chief Akin Fagbamiye, the town has organised some activities to mark the final rites.
Fagbamiye said the late monarch deserved befitting burial rites because of the development his 25-year brought to the town.
He said, “The the 25-year reign of Oba Adedugbe is remarkable in Ile-Oluji. For us in Ile-Oluji, we have no option than to celebrate the late monarch because of the peace and progress that characterised his reign.”
As part of the activities lined up for the burial rites, Fagbamiye said a four-day final farewell programme had been organised to bid the late monarch farewell.
According to him, the programme will start with the riding of a white horse round the town by the first daughter of the deceased monarch.
Fagbamiye said two lectures would also be delivered in honour of the late king. The first lecture will be delivered by eminent scholar, Ambassador Titus Olufunmiloye, while the second lecture, titled: “Traditional rulership and community development” would be delivered by Otunba Oyawale.
Other programmes include Jumat service, football match and thanksgiving service.
Fagbamiye, however, added that the selection a new monarch for the town would begin after 90 days of the death of Oba Adedugbe.
