Bayern Munich have handed Arsenal their biggest defeat this season as they crushed the Gunners 5-1 in their Champions League clash at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.
Arsenal now need more than a miracle if they are to progress to the next phase of the Champions League as their poor start in the group phase leaves them with just three points from four games.
After the inspiring win over the Bavarians at the Emirates last term, expectations were high that the Gunners would pull some strings in Germany on Wednesday.
However, that was not the case, as Thomas Muller netted two goals as his Bayern Munich side got their desired revenge over the Gunners who ended their winning streak few days back.
The hosts started the game positively, and opened the scoring after just 10 minutes when Thiago launched a ball in the direction of Robert Lewandowski, before the former Borussia Dortmund man headed past Petr Cech from four yards.
Arsenal will feel hard done why they thought they had scored an equaliser just two minutes later, as Mesut Ozil bundled the ball into the net, but the referee disallowed the goal as the midfielder was deemed to have handled the ball.
That perhaps may have swung the tide back for Bayern Munich who added two more goals to have a 3-0 lead in the first half.
It was Muller who first doubled the advantage for the hosts before David Alaba ensured that Bayern was in cruise control with the third goal of the night.
Bayern added a fourth goal after the break, as substitute Arjen Robben met an Alaba cross with his first touch of the match.
Though Oliver Giroud pulled one back for the sorry Arsenal team , it was inconsequential to say the least even as Bayern put the icing on the cake with a fifth goal on 89 minutes, as Douglas Costa found Muller, before the German placed the ball into the bottom corner of Cech’s goal.
