WAEC registrar never insulted Kemi Adeosun -- WAEC

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) on Wednesday described as false and mischievous remarks credited to the Registrar of the Council, Dr Iyi Uwadiae, in some social media reports, "which constitute personal insult to the Hon. Minister of Finance, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mrs Kemi Adeosun".

According to a statement issued and signed by the Head of Public Affairs, WAEC, Mr Abiodun Aduloju, the report was "worrisome and embarrassing to WAEC."

A part of the statement read: "The Registrar does not reside in Nigeria and has not granted a press interview or engaged in an informal chat with any Nigerian media representative or authorised anyone to speak on his behalf concerning the Honourable Minister's statement. Dr Uwadiae is an experienced public personality and seasoned diplomat who holds sacrosanct the entrenched culture of mutual understanding and respect that exist among all operatives and representatives of the governments of the five member countries of the Council."

According to an online publication, the WAEC boss had faulted the minister's statements during a budget defence at the National Assembly and had "offered Mrs Adeosun free chance to resit her Mathematics Exam."

WAEC's statement which said the examination body held the Minister in high esteem, added that the "provocative and malicious publication" was intended to "cause disaffection between two notable citizens of Nigeria and destroy the sixty-four-year-old collaboration between WAEC and Federal Republic of Nigeria."
