Husband jumped to death from truck 'to escape his nagging wife'

A husband was so fed up with the row he was having with his wife that he jumped out of their truck and was killed.

Cristy Pider, 33, was reportedly driving the pickup truck during an argument with her husband Donald Pider, 34.

The couple, from Hesperia, US, had been at a party and the husband wanted to return but his wife refused, so he jumped from the truck, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Now police in Michigan have charged the wife with drink driving following the incident on Tuesday morning.

She has been arraigned in 78th District Court on a misdemeanour charge of operating while intoxicated.

She told officers she was shocked when he husband leapt to his death.

Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon said he looked at the case “really long and hard” and determined he cannot “prove beyond a reasonable doubt” that Cristy Pider’s intoxication was a “factual and proximate cause of (Donald’s) death.”

The prosecutor said that his jump from the truck was “an independent thing not resulting from her drunkenness.” It was “unforeseeable,” he said.

Had it been a situation where she struck a tree and he died, then the prosecution could pursue a charge of operating while intoxicated causing death. More charges are possible.

A police report on the death suggests Cristy Pider did not call 911, but someone did and paramedics found the husband on the road.

Mr Pider suffered severe head injuries and died in the ambulance.

During treatment at the scene, the wife allegedly drove up and told police he had jumped.

Pider was released on a $3,500 personal recognizance bond and is due for a pretrial hearing on 10 May.
