Hilarious spoof of Money Supermarket advert gets 6m views - more than the original

A spoof version of the popular moneysupermarket.com advert has gone viral - doubling the number of views of the original.

Father-of-four Wayne Phillips, 40, filmed his own version of the ad which features a man in a suit jacket strutting through the streets wearing just a pair of hotpants and heels and shaking his bootie.
It also features Sharon Osbourne.

Wayne’s version, also to the soundtrack of The Pussycat Dolls’ Don’t Cha, is filmed in Wythenshawe with some participation from shoppers, Manchester Evening News reports.

During its first day on Facebook, it notched up a million views, and after five days it’s now up to 2.6m.

It’s also been featured on the LAD Bible, where it’s been viewed more than 3.2m times.
That’s nearly 6m watches - whereas the original advert had around 2m.

Wayne, a self-employed house clearances expert who attended acting school, tagged his friends at the Jimmy Egan Boxing Academy in Benchill to promote their group.

“I just thought it would be funny. I only had 2,000 friends on Facebook at the start so I didn’t expect to get that many views," he said.

“But then by the end of the first day I had a million and now I have 7,000 friends - it’s amazing how it’s gone viral worldwide, I can’t believe it really.

“I had seen other spoofs but mine is the only one that does it all the way from the start locking the car - except I lock a workman’s van instead and walk through Wythenshawe.”

Wayne is then seen shaking his backside at shoppers - before his friend Colin Brown joins in for a dance.

He added: “I wanted to make my backside bigger like in the original advert but I’d parked on double yellows and didn’t have time to push a pillow down my boxers.

“It was quite nippy but at least I had a suit on my top half.”

Wayne, who has had extra and speaking parts on shows like Shameless and Peaky Blinders, has become a celebrity in Wythenshawe.

He added: “My friends and family really love it. I get pulled up every five minutes walking around Wythenshawe at the moment. I feel like James Bond.”

Wayne, who attended Vernon Acting School in Prestwich, has a number of YouTube videos under ‘Wayne Phillips vine’.
