Osun Puts Debt Profile At N44billion

Osun State Government on Monday put its total loans secured to finance some infrastructural projects across the state at N44billion as agaisnt N500billion claimed by the opposition in the state.

It also disclosed that all its expenses on the various federal road in the state is little more than N60 billion as against N480 billion being championed by the opposition.

The Government in a statement issued by the Director of Communication and Strategy under Governor Rauf Aregbesola, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon faulted the figures claimed by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore describing the fabulous figures as fraudulent and an attempt to blackmail the current administration in the state.

It would be recalled that Omisore while featuring on his Radio Station accused Aregbesola’s government of having indebted the state to the tune of N500billion

But Okanlawon in a swift reaction said Omisore has merely demonstrated further the mischief and ignorance he is known for with the fraudulent N480 billion loan figure he alleged.

Okanlawon, said Omisore’s fabricated N480 billion loan figure exposes his ignorance in matters of finance. He has also demonstrated his mischief in the outright lies in his figures.

“Every knowledgeable person in Osun and beyond has the figures of the Osun borrowings by virtue of the open nature of the Aregbesola’s administration.

“Osun could not have borrowed in secrecy as the two bonds in the capital market and the Sukuk Bond were taken in celebrated manners.

“While we took a N14.4billion Sukuk bond with two tranches, the state government also approached the capital market for a N30 billion loan.

“These are verifiable facts and which are in the public domain. So, what new thing has Mr. Omsiore has said other than regurgitating the same old-fashioned, weather-beaten lies that could not help him dislodge Aregbesola in the August 9 governorship election?”

Okanlawon stated further that the people of Osun whom Aregbesola owes adequate information about the state’s finances are well-informed about their states’ finances.
