Six dead, 100 injured in India gas leak

At least six people have died and 100 others have been taken to nearby hospitals after a gas leak in India’s northern Punjab province.
The leak happened after a tanker carrying ammonia gas got stuck under a flyover in the city of Ludhiana.
Al Jazeera’s Nidhi Dutt, reporting from India’s New Delhi, said people have been evacuated from the area surrounding the epicentre of the gas leak.
“There are at least 100 people who have been taken to hospital with complaints like breathing problems,” she said. “We’ve also seen on local networks some pictures of people with red eyes and discoloured tongues.”

She said that it was not known where the tanker was going at the time of the incident.
Indian authorities have launched an investigation into the case.
