Hundreds of members of a Kentucky community have turned out to help clean anti-Muslim graffiti off a mosque.
People of all faiths have turned out to remove the spray-painted slurs on the walls of the Louisville Islamic Center.
The place of worship was defaced this week by vandals who wrote "Stop terrorism", "Moslems - leave the Jews alone" and "Nazis speak Arabic".
They also sprayed "This is for France", a possible reference to the Charlie Hebdo attacks.
Members of the mosque found the graffiti on Wednesday morning as they arrived for prayers.
Mayor Greg Fischer had urged community members to show solidarity by helping the clean-up.
He tweeted on Friday: "Love and compassion at work at #LOUISVILLE Islamic Center.
"Faces from many faiths showing love wins!"
The local transportation authority shuttled volunteers free of charge to the mosque.
Mayor Fischer said earlier this week the vandalism was "a punch in the gut".
"It is not just an act against one faith, the Muslim faith," he said.
"It's an act against Buddhists, Christians, Jews - all faiths."
Muhammad Babar, a spokesman for the centre, told the Louisville Courier Journal that they had been on their guard since someone last week ripped apart a Koran outside the city's Muslim community centre.
"Whoever did this, we will pray for him, and we have forgiven him," Mr Babar told the newspaper.
Police are looking for the graffiti culprits but the security cameras on the property were apparently not working.
The FBI has joined the police investigation.
