Ebola nurse Pauline Cafferkey now 'serious but stable'

Fearless Ebola nurse Pauline Cafferkey is now improving, with doctors describing her as being in a serious but stable condition.

The Scottish nurse was admitted to the care of experts at London’s Royal Free Hospital more than a week ago after falling unwell.

She contracted Ebola during aid work in Sierra Leone and was diagnosed in December after returning to Glasgow via London.

A statement from the Royal Free said: "We are able to announce that Pauline Cafferkey's condition has improved to serious but stable."

Last Wednesday the hospital said Ms Cafferkey was "critically ill" after her condition deteriorated and she was left fighting for her life.

She is being treated for Ebola in the Hampstead hospital's high level isolation unit.
