I can no longer pay salaries every month, says Benue governor

Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, has declared that with the dwindling monthly allocation from the Federal Government, there is no way workers in the state can be getting regular monthly salaries until things improve.

In order to have a better approach to the issue so as to avoid frosty relationship with the workers, the state government reportedly entered into an agreement with labour leaders at the weekend.

One of the agreements reportedly entered into was merging two months allocation to pay one month, stressing that the allocation to the state for October and November would be merged to pay the October salaries of all workers in the state.

According to the governor, the agreement came after they weighed the option of paying some ministries, departments and agencies while the others would wait for the next month.

The parties also considered internally generated revenue options and agreed that it was imperative to look inwards and beef up internal revenue generating sources as a permanent solution.

They also agree that all leakages and loopholes in the system be blocked in order to conserve the available lean resources.
