Robbers kill two guards, steal 150 laptops at Ondo school

Armed robbers on Sunday broke into Olofin Grammar School, Idanre in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State, killing the two security personnel guarding the school premises.

The bodies of the guards, Akingbade Adewoleoye and Akinjemiyan Babayemi, were found in different spots within the school compound after the robbers left.

The principal of the school, Adenuoye Akin, confirmed the incident, saying the hoodlums went away with about150 laptops.

He noted that the computers were recently purchased by the state government for the e-learning programmes of the school.

A resident of the community told journalists that although a police station was about 200 metres away from the school, policemen could not foil the robbery incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday.

The Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, who is from the community, lamented the incident, saying the state executive council would meet on Monday to discuss the incident.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Femi Joseph, confirmed the robbery incident, noting that the command had commenced investigations into the matter.

“Yes, we can confirm that there was a robbery incident in the school and we have started the investigation.

“We will certainly arrest the hoodlums,” he said.

The State Commissioner for Education, Jide Adejuyigbe, described the incident as unfortunate, saying government would put security measures in place to secure schools in the state.

“It is like armed robbers are laying siege on all our schools in Ondo state.

“This is a security challenge and we will definitely do something about it,” Adejuyigbe said.

The bodies of the guards have been deposited at the morgue of the Idanre State Hospital.
