Germanwings Airbus A320 plane crash: Footage 'shows moment Spanish PM was told of disaster'

Disaster: According to 20 Minutes, this showed the moment the PM learned of the crash
Footage reportedly shows the moment Spain's Prime Minister learned of the plane crash which has killed 45 of his country's citizens.

Mariano Rajoy was on a visit to Vitoria in northern Spain when he received a phone call while cameras were still rolling.

His words could not be heard in the footage shown by Spanish news outlet 20 Minutes but he looked visibly concerned.

He later tweeted: "Shocked by the Alps crash. It's a tragedy. We are working with the French and German authorities in the investigation.

"I have suspended my agenda and I am returning to Madrid. A crisis cabinet is to be formed and the Development Minister will go to France."

Two babies were among the Spanish dead when Germanwings flight 9525 from Barcelona to Dusseldorf plummeted from its 38,000ft cruising altitude in less than 10 minutes.

It crashed in the French Alps just before 11am local time and most of the other 100 or so passengers are believed to have been German.
