Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has hit out at the media after he was asked about his relationship with Ryan Giggs.
The situation arose after United’s assistant manager appeared unmoved when the team scored a late winner at Newcastle on Wednesday.
Television pictures captured the lack of reaction from Giggs, while in contrast Van Gaal shouted and gesticulated in celebration as Ashley Young netted the only goal of the match.
United have been stuttering in the league and Van Gaal clearly believes he does not need the distraction over Giggs as the team chase a Champions League position.
"No. We have a very bad relationship. I cannot answer that. I want to have those rumours," Van Gaal said sarcastically.
He then added: "I am very irritated at this question because everyone can see we have a very good relationship.
“We work very hard together. Not only with Ryan but with all the staff and the players. It is a way of suggesting things. I am very irritated. I take my measures against the media. I am not pleased."
United face Arsenal in the FA Cup quarter-final at Old Trafford on Monday and van Gaal reckons the match is the pick of the round.
Van Gaal said: "It is a game, 11 v 11 on a high level. Arsenal and Manchester United are placed third and fourth. It is nearly a final I think."
