Speaker of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Dele Oligbemi, has raised alarm over plots by some influential persons in Lagos and Osun states to end Governor Ayo Fayose’s administration in Ekiti State.
According to him, part of the plot is to recruit fake military personals who will provide protection for the APC legislators to carry out the impeachment.
Olugbemi, who briefed journalists in Ado-Ekiti on the latest impeachment move by the 19 members of the APC in the state House of Assembly, said the plot is real.
According to him, the APC has allegedly orchestrated plans to get Fayose out of power, including precipitating crisis that could prompt a declaration of a state of emergency. .
He, therefore, warned that members of the PDP caucus were prepared to do everything possible to defend the mandate freely given to Fayose by Ekiti people, even if it requires putting their lives online.
The Speaker revealed how certain chieftains of APC in Osun and Lagos states, whose names he did not mention, invited him for a secret meeting on the alleged impeachment plot.
He said: “I have called you to intimate members of the public about the ongoing plot by some highly influential persons to cause crisis in our peaceful state.
I have been invited to Lagos and Osun states where I met with some important people, whose names I will not mention now, who tried to lure me into their evil agenda. They thought I could be bought over to pave way for an easy removal of the governor.
“I can’t imagine myself being part of the plot to remove a man that was overwhelmingly voted for by the people. The reason for my
involvement brought about the tentative withdrawal of the suit filed by APC lawmakers against me, challenging Omirin’s removal from Court.
“But , I want to say that I will mention names if they go ahead with the plan. We want to also say that we the defendants in the suits want the continuation of the suits, we don’t want withdrawal because due process would have to be followed in a constitutional matter like this.”
“I want to say again that we are solidly behind Fayose. We are also ready to defend the mandate freely given to him by the people of the state, even if it will cost us our lives,” Olugbemi said.
Ekiti, according to him, has been peaceful until those he termed as power mongers commenced their evil agenda.
The legislator also spoke on the circumstance surrounding the withdrawal of the suit challenging the removal of Omirin as speaker, saying it was part of the conditions agreed upon in the meeting to accelerate the impeachment process.
