Two Nabbed For Impersonating Obasanjo’s Daughter

Detectives at the Zonal Headquarters, Zone 2 police, Onikan Lagos have arrested two suspects who allegedly impersonated former president Olusegun Obasanjo’s daughter.

Also it was gathered that plot to poison the former president, Obasanjo by the suspects who allegedly approached Kashamu, and allegedly demanded money to carry out the operation of poisoning the former president was also uncovered.

The two allegedly posed as daughter to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and an intelligence officer respectively, to Senator Buruji Kashamu, under the pretence that they would resolve the political rift between him and the former president.

The arrested suspects are one Peter Uwakala and Victoria Alaegbu.

They were nabbed following a report by Kashamu to the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2, AIG Mbu Joseph Mbu.

Investigations revealed that the impostors  met with the senator at a hotel  in Victoria Island, Lagos, on May 8, 2015,where they  allegedly demanded for an unspecified amount from him  to enable them kill the ex president.

In response to the complaint which was followed by a letter  from Kashamu a month later, the X squad section of the zonal  command were said to have  swung into action.

The manhunt for the suspects however led to arrest of the two.

Upon interrogation, it was discovered that the suspects’ claims of being close to the ex-president was false.

Part of the command’s response letter to Kashamu’s read:

“The fact of the case was that the complainant alleged in his verbal complaint that the duo of Peter Uwakala and Victoria Alaegbu falsely represented themselves as an intelligence officer and daughter to the former President Obasanjo respectively to him under the pretence that they were going to resolve the political rift between him and Obasanjo. He stressed that the duo met with him at a hotel,

where the latter who had collected N500,000 from his younger  brother, made some uncomplimentary and derogatory remarks  that Obasanjo ‘is so bad and wicked to the extent that his  staff hate and are unhappy with him ,hence would poison him  if they see the opportunity’, while the former introduced herself as Yetunde Obasanjo to him. He added that he had to report to the police upon his suspicion of foul play by the suspects.

“Investigation conducted revealed that the duo were impersonators. From the foregoing, it was established that both Peter Uwakala and Victoria Alaegbu actually committed the offences alleged by the complainant and have been charged accordingly in line with the prescription of the law.”

The suspects were reportedly arraigned before Chief Magistrate Adeola Adedayo at the Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos on June 5, 2015 and were remanded at Kirikiri Prisons, while the matter was adjourned to July 31, 2015.”

There are indication that the gesture could have settled the face-off between Obasanjo and Kashamu, following report by those close to the duo that the former could have actually forgiven the latter.

It was gathered that the fence mending led to Kashamu withdrawing the N20billion libel suit against Obasanjo.  When contacted, Kashamu’s media aide, Mr Austin Kashamu said that that the matter was in court. He however, pointed out that his boss’s conduct “goes a long way to show that despite his political differences on principles with Obasanjo, he (Kashamu) does not wish him (Obasanjo) ill because he respects the sanctity of human life and also fears God”.
