A voodoo priest is accused of having sex with an 11-year-old girl
after convincing her mother that it would cure her of bad spirits.
Brogenet Cinor, 48, is accused of having sex with the girl after telling her mother that she needed to be cleansed.
CBSMiami reports that Cinor is alleged to have abused the girl and had looked for more possible victims.
Police in Sunset, South Florida, said the girl’s mother took her to Cinor’s home five years ago. The case has only just come to light.
Her mum was made to stay in the house while Cinor took the girl to a shed in the back garden.
He then allegedly told her to undress and had sex with her.
Cinor
reportedly restrained the girl’s arms and wouldn’t allow her to get up.
After carrying out the alleged abuse he gave her money, police said.
“He
was using the victim’s belief in voodoo and curses and the fact that
they believe that they could die if they did not follow his
instructions,” said Sunrise police spokesman Cindi McCue.
The
girl told her mother what happened a few weeks later, and when the mum
confronted the priest, he denied everything. It’s claimed he even went
so far as to tell the mother than if she mentioned the allegations to
anyone else, she would die.
It wasn’t until last year that the mum plucked up the courage to report the matter to police.
During
the investigation, police also contacted two adult sisters, in their
late 20s and early 30s, who had gone to Cinor for spiritual healing
between 2008 and 2009.
Police allege both sisters said Cinor had sex with them on various
occasions. Both got pregnant and Cinor reportedly paid to have their
pregnancies terminated.
He allegedly told them they would die if they told anyone about their relationship.
Cinor
was arrested on June 19th on a charge of sexual battery on a child. He
was not charged for having sex with the sisters after investigators
determined it was consensual.
Cinor has lived in South Florida for 30 years.
“Our
fear is that there may be many other victims who have not come forward,
that we would like to be able to talk with, if there are other
victims,” said McCue.
