A singer and guitarist due to make his debut at the Isle of Wight Festival in June killed himself after his mistress threatened to tell his wife of their affair.
Tom Caulfield, 32, had been seeing the woman, known only as Amy, for six months before he ended their relationship, an inquest heard.
And he hanged himself two weeks after Amy told him she was going to tell all to his wife Rachel.
Friends found Tom’s body at the home he shared with Rachel on April 5, after he failed to turn up to a gig.
Days before, he had described his wedding in May, 2013 as the best day of his life.
The Bournemouth inquest was told Tom and Rachel, of Wyke Regis, Weymouth, had planned to buy a home and start a family.
Recording
a suicide verdict, Dorset coroner Sheriff Payne told the hearing: “Mr
Caulfield was very happily married but we know that in the background
for six months he had been carrying on a relationship with another
woman.
“It had ceased some weeks prior to his death but she became upset and said she was going to tell Rachel.
“He was so concerned about what happened that he made this terribledecision.
“This was not a cry for help - it was a very positive act. He knew he was going to end his life.”
After
Tom died his parents Gerry and Val, twin brother JonJo and fiance
Victoria, said in a statement: “He was a hugely talented, popular and
loving man. We are all devastated.
“So many people have been so
kind, it’s been really quite overwhelming. It comes as some comfort to
learn that that Tom was universally loved and respected.”
