Labour membership grows by 14,500 in a day as Jeremy Corbyn made leader

The election of Jeremy Corbyn has spurred tens of thousands of people to join the Labour Party - sending their membership figures soaring to its highest level in decades.

The Party's membership grew by 14,500 in under 24 hours - with more joining every hour.

Party sources confirmed that the total party membership now stands at more than 325,000 - the highest number since 1999.
