Osinbajo: It is time to diversify Nigeria's economy

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has reiterated the need for the country to diversify its economy.

While delivering a lecture at this year's annual conference organised by Academy for Entrepreneurial Studies (AES), held in Lagos, he pointed out that the present administration is poised to address the issue having taken into consideration, the long and short term effect of the fall of global oil price.

"At independence, the primary drivers of our economy were agriculture and mining. By the 70s, crude oil took over, making the country a virtual mono-product economy", he added.

At the conference themed: Diversification: Roadmap to Nigeria's Economic Recovery, the Vice President noted that for the country's economy to maintain steady and consistent growth,  other sectors of the economy must be looked into, like mining and agriculture, because the products coming from there are essentiallly predisposed to the vagaries and vulnerability of the global market with attendant consequences for the growth and development of the national economy.
