A Qatari sheikh who claimed to own a Ferrari that was filmed street racing through Beverly Hills has apparently left the US, police have said.
The yellow LaFerrari, which can sell for $1.4m, was spotted racing a white Porsche, flying through stop signs and zooming along narrow streets at high speed.
The vehicle eventually pulled into a driveway in the neighbourhood, with its engine smoking.
Khalid bin Hamad al Thani, a member of the ruling family of Qatar, owns a drag-racing team and is reported to have been driving the car.
Police answered reports of reckless driving and found both cars parked in a driveway. A man at the house told the officers the cars belonged to him, but denied he had been speeding or driving recklessly, police said.
He also claimed to have diplomatic immunity, but Lieutenant Lincoln Hoshino said that was unlikely.
Police Chief Dominick Rivetti said the LaFerrari is connected to Mr al Thani. It is unclear if he was actually driving either of the cars involved the street racing.
Lt Hoshino said: "The drivers weren't visible on the videos or photographs."
Chief Rivetti, speaking at a news conference, said: "What I do know is you can't claim diplomatic immunity if you don't have it, and you can't use that as an excuse to jeopardise the public or commit crimes."
The motorists could be charged with reckless driving if they are identified.
The city has also passed on its outrage at the racing to the Qatari consulate through the Department of State.
