Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus confirmed that 18 Turkish workers were kidnapped near Iraq's capital Baghdad on Wednesday, according to state Anadolu news agency.
Kurtulmus said they were working for the Turkish construction company, Nurol Holding.
The company has confirmed that 18 of its workers were abducted by unidentified men in military fatigues who raided its construction site for a stadium project in Sadr city, a suburb of Baghdad.
On June 11, 2014, 49 Turkish hostages-- diplomats, consular officials and their families were kidnapped from the Mosul consulate in Iraq, a day after the Islamic State group took control of Mosul, Iraq's second-largest city.
