The Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday said it had postponed the earlier scheduled October 17 bye-election for Borno Central senatorial district to October 31.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Borno, Samuel Madaki, disclosed this at a news conference in Maiduguri, saying the postponement was caused by some logistic problems.
Mr. Madaki said the new banking policy on operation of single account by government agencies had created some hitches in the supply of logistics from INEC headquarters in Abuja.
He said the Commission had earlier prepared grounds for smooth conduct of the polls, before it encountered the logistics problems.
“We have to postpone the election due to unforeseen circumstances,’’ he added.
