Bayelsa poll: Sylva’s hometown welcomes Dickson

Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, the council area of the candidate for the All Progressives Congress, Chief Timipre Sylva, was agog as Governor Seriake Dickson took his campaign there.

The communities comprising Brass constituency 3 on Friday came out in their large numbers to endorse the re-election of Dickson.

The communities include Sangana, Kongho, Ogbokiri, Bekekiri, among others.

In a carnival-like manner, the people trooped out en masse to give the visiting governor a rousing welcome.

Some members of the communities said they were highly impressed with the performance of Governor Dickson, especially in the areas of security, education, health and infrastructure.

At two separate rallies at Sangana and Ogbokiri in Akassa clan, the governor’s visit was described as historic as the traditional head of the kingdom, the chiefs and inhabitants said they were resolute in their resolve to vote massively for the Peoples Democratic Party on December 5.

In his address, the PDP chairman of Ward 10, and a serving commissioner in the State Local Government Service Commission, Uroh Kiani, mentioned some of the social amenities provided in the area by the Dickson administration as model secondary school, rehabilitation of health centre and others.

He also lauded the governor for giving them a sense of belonging by appointing sons and daughters of the area into position of responsibilities including the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ayibatonye Owei, and facilitating the election of Senator Ben Murray-Bruce.

He stressed that it was the first time a sitting governor was visiting Akassa kingdom since the creation of the state.

In his response, Dickson commended the people for the warm reception accorded him and his entourage, describing it as a carnival.

Meanwhile, the Dickson’s campaign team, Restoration Campaign Organisation, has raised the alarm over the destruction of its campaign billboards and poll fliers across the state.

The campaign team allegedly fingered the opposition of being responsible for the destruction.

It therefore called for timely intervention of the security operatives.

Describing the development as disheartening and uncalled for, the organisation in a statement on Saturday by its campaign Director of Publicity, Jonathan Obuebite, said the call became imperative in order to avoid a political clash in the state.
