Troops avert suicide bomb attempt in Borno

The troops of the Nigerian Army have averted what would have been a bomb attack on Ummamari, Maiduguri, on Saturday morning.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relation, Col. Sani  Usman, said in a statement on Saturday that the soldiers of the Forward Operation Base and vigilant members of the Civilian JTF spotted the suicide bomber while he was attempting to sneak into the community to cause a planned havoc.

Usman said that the suicide bomber detonated the bomb strapped to his waste and died on the spot when he was asked to stop for checks.

He said that the suicide bomber was the only casualty of the foiled suicide attack on the city.

He said, “Troops of 7 Division Garrison Forward Operation Base today averted yet another suicide bomb catastrophe on Ummamari community by a suspected Boko Haram terrorist at about 7.00am this morning.

“The suicide bomber was intercepted by the vigilant troops and the Civilian JTF while making attempt to enter the village to detonate his dangerous cargo on innocent persons in Ummamari.

“The suicide bomber detonated the strapped Improvised Explosive Device vest on his body, thus killing himself instantly when he was forced to a halt based on suspicion that he was carrying suicide bomb material.

“Thankfully, there was no any other casualty other than the suspected suicide bomber.”

He added that the troops and the Civilian JTF were combing the area in search of Boko Haram members who might be hiding to commit heinous acts.
