Four inventors whose work paved the way for the selfie phenomenon have been awarded the world's most prestigious prize for engineering.
The £1 million Queen Elizabeth Prize is shared by British-born Dr Michael Tompsett, Prof Nobukazu Teranishi from Japan, and Prof Eric Fossum and George Smith from the US.
Between them, their innovations, which span three decades, revolutionised the way we capture and analyse visual information.
The winners of the prize will be formally honoured in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace later this year. Along with the £1 million prize, they will each will receive an iconic trophy
