The Nigerian Air Force has said although it deployed fighter jets to the troubled communities in Adamawa State, it has not bombed any location as the “service was not at war with Nigerians.”
The NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Olatokunbo Adesanya, said this in an interview with our correspondent on Friday, stating that the Air Force’s intervention in the state was not to bomb, but to “fire warning shots.”
PUNCH correspondent had exclusively reported on Wednesday that the Air Force deployed two fighter aircraft – an Alpha Jet and an EC 135 attack helicopter – to the troubled communities as part of efforts to quell the crisis between farmers and herdsmen there.
This military intervention followed the Monday attack where scores of people were killed in Dong and Lawura villages in the Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa State, when suspected rampaging Fulani militia attacked some communities, burning down several houses.
The Air Force’s Spokesman, AVM Adesanya, said on Friday that the Air Force had not bombed any community in Adamawa State.
“Yes, we are on the ground, but the Air Force is for all Nigerians. We cannot bomb the villages. We did not bomb any village. We only fired warning shots in the communities.”
