50 Cent goes bankrupt: His downfall from award winning rapper, businessman and actor

50 Cent has filed for bankruptcy three days after he was ordered to pay a woman £3.2million for leaking her sex tape.

A jury determined the rapper had intentionally acquired an X-rated video she made with her boyfriend, added himself as a crude commentator and posted it online without her permission to embarrass his rap rival Rick Ross, who fathered a child with the woman.

The artist, real name Curtis James Jackson III, issued papers in the US Bankruptcy Court in Hartford, Connecticut yesterday.

TMZ reports that Fiddy claims that his assets are valued between $10 million and $50 million but his debts amount are in the same range.

A look at his downfall from award winning rapper and global sensation:

Difficult start in life

50 has been very open about his past, as he has previously admitted dealing drugs from the age of 12.
However he has always insisted he never took them himself.

And while the star dropped it to pursue his musical dream, he later got the worst knock back of all as he was shot NINE times outside his grandmother's former home in South Jamaica, miraculously surviving and going on to get his big break.

After Jackson released the compilation album Guess Who's Back? in 2002, he was discovered by Eminem and signed by Shady Records, Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records.

Get Rich or Die Tryin‍'

The star shot to fame with his 2003 album Get Rich or Die Tryin‍', produced by Eminem and Dr Dre, later cementing his name in the limelight with East Coast hip hop group G-Unit.

He founded G-Unit Records later that year.

His second album, The Massacre, was another hit after it was released in 2005, and it spiralled from there.

Stream of awards for his music

At the height of his fame Jackson sold over 30 million albums worldwide and won several awards, including a Grammy Award, 13 Billboard Music Awards, six World Music Awards, three American Music Awards and four BET Awards.
The musician was ranked the sixth-best artist of the 2000s and the third-best rapper behind Eminem and Nelly.

Branching into acting

He later pursued an acting career, appearing in the semi-autobiographical film Get Rich or Die Tryin' in 2005, the Iraq war film Home of the Brave a year later before starring in Righteous Kill.

Stake in Vitamin Water

New-York born Jackson was known as one of the world's wealthiest artists, largely thanks to his minority stake in Vitamin Water.

In 2007, the Coca Cola Company acquired the brand from Glaceau for £2.64 billion.

According to reports in the US at the time "50 Cent was thought to have walked away with a figure somewhere between $60 million and $100 million."

It helped him amass a fortune of £90 million. However a number of lawsuits have seen his wealth wiped out.

In December he failed to pay a £11 million judgement against him after the hip hop star was ordered to pay millions to earphone manufacturer Sleek Audio.

Following a three-year legal battle a judge said he owned the Florida-based company £7.72million in damages over a failed business deal and another £2.9 million in solicitor's fees.

And now he has coughed up £3.2million for leaking a woman's sex tape.

A jury determined the rapper had intentionally acquired an X-rated video she made with her boyfriend, added himself as a crude commentator and posted it online without her permission to embarrass his rap rival Rick Ross, who fathered a child with the woman.
