Buhari should investigate corruption in Rivers – PDP

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the immediate past administration in the state for alleged  corruption.

The party has also described as laughable the purported plan of its members to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC); a statement it credited to the APC governorship candidate, Dr. Dakuku Peterside.

Deputy Publicity Secretary of PDP in the state, Mr. Samuel Nwanosike, while briefing journalists yesterday in Port Harcourt, in reaction to statements made by APC chieftains in the state, tasked Buhari to maintain his reputation and zero tolerance for corruption, by not having sacred cows in his fight against the economic menace.

Nwanosike said: “Since the President of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, has told the world that he is a man with zero tolerance for corruption, we, Rivers people, are asking that there should be no sacred cow. We are saying that corruption in Rivers State should be investigated and justice should be done to Rivers people.”

He faulted Ngofa’s statement on the state’s economy, asking why the last administration left unpaid workers salaries, pointing out that proceeds from some of the transactions made could not be traced.

“As we speak to you, we cannot trace the proceeds that emanated from all the transactions made over the infrastructure we had in Rivers State provided by past leaders that ensured that the state came to limelight.”

The party claimed that a petition had been raised before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) showing details of fraudulent transactions allegedly made by the last administration between December 1 and 8, 2014.”

“How can you imagine that, between December 1 and 8, 2014, with one address, 25 Trans-Amadi Road, Port Harcourt, over N21 billion of Rivers funds were transferred? We are asking, where did these funds go to?”

Meanwhile, the PDD had challenged the APC gubernatorial candidate, Peterside, to mention its members that had planned for defection, advising him to stop misleading Rivers people.

“We want to ask Dr. Dakuku Peterside to come out clear with his story by telling us names of those PDP leaders that want to defect to APC. It is not enough you make frivolous statements and allegations”.

Speaking further, the PDP also faulted the statement credited to the senatorial candidate of the Rivers South-East, Senator Abe, that election did not take place the State, wondering how an APC House of Assembly member got his votes to become a lawmaker.

“It is worrisome and laughable, that, today, we have in the Rivers State House of Assembly an APC member, who comes from the same senatorial district, representing Eleme local government as a member of the state House of Assembly. Where did he get the vote that took him to the House of Assembly without him participating?”
