A driver and a passenger of a Toyota Corolla car belonging to the Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, escaped death after a train crushed the car at Olaiya Junction, Osogbo, on Thursday.
Eyewitnesses told PUNCH that the accident, which occurred at about 1.20pm, caused traffic congestion. He added that officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps later came to ensure free flow of traffic.
The driver of the car, who identified himself as Owolabi, was seen making a call on the telephone to the university to report the accident.
An eyewitness, who identified himself simply as Toba, told PUNCH that the train was from Ede and moving toward Ilorin, Kwara State. He added that the Redeemer University’s driver followed a convoy of speeding bullion vans to the spot.
He said, “The man was fortunate that the train crushed the front side of the car and the impact pushed back the car. Nobody was injured.”
