Fans across the country have joined in felicitating with Nollywood actress, Ini Edo, who last week received a political appointment by Akwa Ibom State governor, Emmanuel Udom.
Congratulatory comments and support messages followed Ini Edo’s acceptance of her new office as the special adviser to the governor on tourism in an Instagram post.
The Glo ambassador used the post to thank the governor, her state and fans for their support.
She wrote: “To be called to serve is an honour. I give God the glory. [I] am grateful to my state, my governor, every one of you with your constant prayers and support… God bless you”.
The fashionable celebrity will be saddled, among other things, with the responsibility of generating new and innovative ideas on tourism development and enhancement of the state.
An official statement confirming her appointment is being expected from the office of the Akwa Ibom State Government whose administration has been validated by the Supreme Court of Nigeria recently.
Talented Ini Edo has been in the movie industry for more than a decade interpreting challenging and not too challenging lead and supporting roles in prime movies with grace and charm.
Partnering with Emem-Isong led Royal Arts Academy, the actress produced her first movie, Knocking On Heaven’s Door, which was a cinema success. She also acted in Ekaette, one of the movies which saw her speak her native Ibibio language.
With her new role, some of her fans seem to fear that the actress will have to desert the movie industry since she would be spending ample time in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State which is her home state.
The Akwa Ibom born beauty is nevertheless not the only thespian to be bestowed with such political responsibility. Industry mates such as Nkiru Sylvanus, Kate Henshaw, Bob Manuel Udokwu, RMD, Hilda Dokubo, Affarm Okereke, Okey Bakassi have at one point been appointed to serve their states as advisers and commissioners with the resultant consequences of withdrawing from the movie world during their service years. Would that be the lot of Ini Edo?
